DAY 2
On the Mount of Beatitudes, high above the north shore of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount. The octagonal domed church offers a fantastically beautiful view over the entire lake. A worthwhile detour takes us to the new excavations of Magdala. The journey continues to the north of Israel to the Jordan source Banias, the biblical Caesarea Philippi. In the evening we drive over the Golan Heights in the area of biblical Gilead.
DAY 3
We start the day with a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee. The journey continues to Capernaum, the city "where Jesus dwelt". You can still see a well-preserved synagogue from the 4th century and the house of Peter. In Tabgha (Seven Springs), the place of the miraculous multiplication of bread, we enjoy the unique mosaics from Byzantine times. In the afternoon we drive to Cana and Nazareth. The modern Basilica of the Annunciation, which characterizes the appearance of the old town, is particularly worth seeing.
DAY 4
The journey through Galilee continues to Mount Tabor. Christian monasteries have stood here since the 4th century and the place where Christ was transfigured is venerated. Through the fertile Jordan Valley we reach the Dead Sea via Jericho. Enjoy a dip in high-percentage salt water that you can't sink in! We get an insight into the life of the Essenes in Qumran, the place where the mysterious scrolls from the 2nd century BC were found. Towards evening we reach the highlight of our journey: the Holy City of Jerusalem! Until the end of the trip we live here or in Bethlehem (4 nights).
DAY 5
From the Mount of Olives, the Old City of Jerusalem lies at our feet. We visit the Ascension Shrine and the Our Father Church. The Dominus Flevit chapel offers a wonderful panoramic view, from which we soon reach the Garden of Gethsemane with the Church of the Nations. The afternoon is dedicated to the passion of Christ. We relive his last walk on the Via Dolorosa. First, the simple Crusader Church of St. Anna awaits us at the Pool of Betesda. We pass the Ecce Homo Arch and enter the Antonia Castle. Here the lithostrotos (stone pavement) and the flagellation chapel remind us of the suffering of Jesus. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the holiest place in Christianity, marks the end of today's day.
DAY 6
First we linger at the Wailing Wall, the greatest shrine of the Jews. We then proceed to the Temple Mount with the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, an architectural masterpiece (outside visit only, access to the Temple Mount cannot be guaranteed). In the afternoon we reach the Benedictine Abbey of Dormition on Mount Zion. In the Upper Room we commemorate the celebration of the Last Supper and the first Pentecost. In the house of Caiaphas (St. Peter in Gallikantu) we remember the arrest of Jesus and his denial by Peter. Interested participants will then visit the Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem.
DAY 7
Our morning excursion takes us to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. During a tour of the lively old town, we get an insight into the everyday life of the Arab population. A visit to the Basilica of the Nativity is a "must" for every pilgrim. A silver star in the Grotto of the Nativity marks the place where Christ was born. When driving to the shepherd's fields you can imagine what it looked like 2000 years ago. In the afternoon we go to Ain Karem, the birthplace of John the Baptist. In the Israel Museum, the model of ancient Jerusalem and the scrolls in the Shrine of the Book are fascinating.
DAY 8
Today it's time to say goodbye. Transfer to Tel Aviv Airport. Return flight back home.
