DAY 2
We drive along the coast to Haifa, the largest port city in Israel. The stop on Mount Carmel is worthwhile for the magnificent panoramic view. From here it is not far to Acre, which attained great importance during the Crusader period. We see the underground Crusader city and the Ahmed Jezzar Mosque. We then drive through the Upper Galilee to Cana and Nazareth. The modern Basilica of the Annunciation, which characterizes the appearance of the old town, is particularly worth seeing. In the evening we arrive at the Sea of Galilee (2 nights).
DAY 3
We start the day with a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee. The journey continues to Capernaum, the city "where Jesus dwelt". You can still see a well-preserved synagogue from the 4th century and the house of Peter. In Tabgha (Seven Springs), the place of the miraculous multiplication of bread, we enjoy the unique mosaics from Byzantine times. Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount on the Mount of Beatitudes. Then we drive north to the Jordan source Banias, the biblical Caesarea Philippi. In the evening we travel over the Golan Heights in the area of biblical Gilead.
DAY 4
We travel to the border crossing to Jordan, the Jordan River Crossing at Bet Shean, and from there to Amman. We take a tour of the Jordanian capital and visit the most important sights: the Roman theater, the citadel hill with excavations from different eras, the Archaeological Museum and the King Abdullah Mosque (2 nights).
DAY 5
Today we set off for Jerash, the biblical Gerasa, an imposing city from Roman times. The magnificent columned streets, various temples and theaters and several early Byzantine churches are still very well preserved. We then proceed to Ajlun to visit the Saracen fortress of Qalaat er-Rabad, one of the finest examples of Arabic architecture.
DAY 6
In the morning we drive to the baptismal site of Jesus in Bethany on the Jordan. We admire the extraordinary mosaic in Madaba depicting a pilgrimage map of the Middle East. We continue to Mount Nebo where Moses died. When the weather is good, you can enjoy a great view of the “Promised Land” from here. Along the King's Road we go through the Wadi Mujib, the Jordanian "Grand Canyon", to Petra (1 night).
DAY 7
We dedicate the whole day to Petra, the former capital of the Nabataean Empire, which is considered one of the greatest archaeological sights in the entire Orient. Visiting the Petra basin is one of the most impressive experiences of a stay in the Middle East. In the evening we drive to Aqaba on the Red Sea (1 night).
DAY 8
Border crossing to Israel. We drive through the Negev desert to the Dead Sea. Enjoy a bath in the high-percentage salt water! The rock of Masada is symbolic of Israel's history. This place was the scene of the Jewish uprising against Rome in the year 73. Towards evening we reach the highlight of our journey: the Holy City of Jerusalem. Until the end of the trip we live here or in Bethlehem
(4 nights).
DAY 9
Today we drive to Ain Karem. It was here that Mary visited her relative Elisabet and it was here that the Magnifi kat was heard for the first time. John the Baptist was born here. In the Israel Museum, the model of ancient Jerusalem and the scrolls in the Shrine of the Book are fascinating. In the afternoon we reach the Benedictine monastery Dormition on Mount Zion. In the Upper Room we commemorate the celebration of the Last Supper and the first Pentecost. In the house of Caiaphas (St. Peter in Gallikantu) we remember the arrest of Jesus and his denial by Peter.
DAY 10
On the Mount of Olives we visit the Ascension Shrine and the Church of the Lord's Prayer. The Dominus Flevit chapel offers a wonderful panoramic view, from which we soon reach the Garden of Gethsemane with the Church of the Nations. Continue to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. The tour through the lively old town takes us to the Basilica of the Nativity. The shepherds' fields still look like they did 2000 years ago.
DAY 11
Jerusalem is the Holy City of Jews, Christians and Muslims. First we experience the Wailing Wall. Then we get to the Temple Mount with the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock. The brightly colored mosaics provide some consolation for the fact that both mosques may only be entered by Muslims (access to the Temple Mount cannot be guaranteed). The afternoon is dedicated to the passion of Christ. We recreate his last walk on the Via Dolorosa. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the holiest place in Christianity, marks the end of today's day.
DAY 12
t's now time to say goodbye. Transfer to Tel Aviv airport and flight back home
